"Agricultural Microbial Inoculants" is the current Chinese national standard (GB 20287-2006), overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, with experts such as Shen Delong and Li Jun participating in its development. This standard specifies the terminology, product classification, technical indicators, and testing methods for microbial inoculants. It clearly stipulates that solid inoculants must have an effective viable count ≥100 million/g, and liquid inoculants ≥200 million/mL, while also controlling key quality parameters such as contamination rate and moisture content.

The standard comprises six modules: terminology and definitions, product classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and packaging labeling. Based on the differences in microbial function, products are classified into functional categories such as rhizobium inoculants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria inoculants, and technical specifications for compound inoculants are established.
